Why I Take My Son To The Forest
Today I went to the forest again, but this time I took my son with me! This is the second time that I brought him with me, and fact is that he loves it so much out here! He loves being in nature, just like his daddy. It really warms my heart to see him having so much fun here!
For me it is very important that spending time in nature is it part of raising him. I want him to learn how important nature is to us, human beings. I want to let him explore nature, giving him that adventurous and exploring mindset. It is our nature to be in nature, but in today's "instant gratification society", it looks like that it's slowly being taken away from us. Well, I can promise you one thing - no one will ever be able to take nature away from me and my family, nor the value of it.
So many kids are addicted to watching television or playing on tablets. So many kids do not know how to enjoy themselves without those things. It makes me just sad sometimes. The world has so many beautiful things to offer, but because of the technology (and probably core values of parents) these days, they are not interested in it anymore. I don't want to judge here, everyone has their own way of raising their kids, but it just caught my eye that, if I am walking through the park for example, that mommy or daddy is playing constantly with his or her smartphone, instead of their children. Or they use the technology that they use inhouse, outside the house. An example of this, is letting the kids watch television on a smartphone, outside the house. Just so they're "calm". I mean, what's the whole point then of going out? I am also definitely not a holy one, but I think it is very important to keep in mind the main goal of what you are doing. Are you going outside, then be focused on being outside! Be in the moment! Just be conscious of the moment and enjoy it to the fullest! The only reason for me to grab my phone is to make pictures and videos. The rest what is happening in digital world is completely not important! The only thing that's important, is that I'm having a blast with my son (and later also with my daughter when she's older. We are having a blast now too, but not in nature).
Besides the fact that I find it important for him to spend time in nature, it's also important to me to spend time with him in nature. We can build a great bond out here, spending some real quality time together. Just me and him. Every moment I can, I enjoy it. Life is so unpredictable, you never know what happens. That's another reason to try living in the moment as much as possible!
