5 Reasons Why You Should Do Burpees
In my workout videos you see me doing burpees all the time. I just love them! The burpee is a very interesting and useful exercise. If you don't know what is a burpee, make sure you check out my workout videos. I do military/prison style burpees - they're without the jump at the end.
It's not for no reason that burpees are used in the military, football teams and by extreme athletes. But don't worry now, everyone can do them! If I can, so can you! Let me tell you 5 reasons why you should implement them in your workout routine.
1. Burpees burn a serious amount of calories
Besides the fact that burpees gives your metabolism a great boost, they also turn you into a fat burning machine. Burpees are very intense and you need to use your whole body to complete the exercise. During a burpee, the body has to provide a lot of energy to the muscles – and this in turn burns a lot of calories. This is a perfect exercise for people who want to lose weight or just want to get in better shape in general.
2. They improve your strength, reaction time and coordination
The burpee is a full body strength training exercise and the ultimate example of functional fitness. With every rep, you'll work your arms, chest, quads, glutes, hamstrings, and abs. Also, because of the complex sequence of movements involved, they improve your reaction time and coordination.
3. You can do them anywhere at any time
This is another huge benefit of the burpee. You don't need a gym or anything and you can do them anywhere without any equipment. You could add a weight vest though. They can be done at home, in your backyard, outside in nature or wherever you want. This eliminates any excuse that you may have not to do a workout!
4. You can do a lot of different styles
Single burpees are great, but you can increase the difficulty easily by doing different styles of them. For example, you can do 2 pump burpees (where you do 2 push-ups instead of 1 at the normal 1 pump burpee), you can do 3,4 or 5 pump burpees. You can do 8 count bodybuilders. Navy seals. Ins & Outs. So many possibilities! Check out my training playlist if you don't know what these are.
Like this you can vary between types of burpees and make it yourself more difficult!
5. Burpees are excellent for cardio
I quickly recognized the cardio value of burpees because your body works as a whole and your cardiovascular system is an important part of building muscle. Your muscles need oxygen to grow. They get their oxygen from your cardiovascular system. When you do just a few burpees, you will feel your heart rate go up and you'll be breathing heavily. This is your cardiovascular system at work. Burpees are the finest way to do high-intensity training so doing burpees will skyrocket your cardiovascular fitness in no time. Increased cardiovascular fitness and muscle mass, and decreased body fat will greatly improve your endurance, stamina, agility, athleticism, balance, coordination, and total body strength. Burpees are just bad ass and you should definitely incorporate them in your workout schedule.
