How to Set Goals THE BEST WAY in 2020

There is nothing more frustrating than being ambitious, but unable to achieve your goals! In this blog post, I’m going to share with you the absolute BEST method of setting and achieving your goals, so you'll be definitely CRUSHING them! Let’s go!

Step 1: Know what you want and write it down

Goal setting starts with knowing exactly in detail what you want and to simply write it down.  If you don't know exactly what you want, it's like entering a ship which hasn't a clear destination. You wouldn't enter a ship like that, right? You would want to know where you would be going EXACTLY. When you're looking for a place to go on a holiday, you won't find something in the brochure which says "We might go the Bahamas, but we're not sure. It could also be the Netherlands." (Which is where I live but shh, don't tell anyone!). You know, that's quite a difference - the Bahamas and the Netherlands! So not knowing exactly in-depth what you want is a no-go! You need to know this first before you can proceed and when you know that, you can start writing it down. 

Writing it down does something with your brain. Whatever you write down you kind of "install" into your subconscious mind. It's like the Matrix where they install new skills by plugging some strange device into the back of your head. Writing does something similar. When it's programmed into your subconscious mind, the engine starts running without you even being aware of it. 


Step 2: Schedule it and create a deadline

The beauty of scheduling and setting a deadline, is that you're setting yourself up for action. In my opinion Monday is a great day to start something new, because it's the start of a new week and it's really motivating to start your week with working on your goals. With scheduling I mean picking a date and place where you are going to take that action. That first step. During this process, it's important that you break down your goal into sub-goals. It's easy to say that you for example want to become a successful YouTuber, but there are quite some skills you need to learn, steps to take and a bunch of other things in order to achieve that. Those are your sub goals, you should note them down, order them and get to it.

After you've done that, it's time to set a deadline for those sub goals. Deadlines are great to keep you on track, accountable, it stops you from procrastinating and wasting time. Remember to set a reasonable deadline, because goals are never unreasonable but deadlines are.


Step 3: Find out what you need to learn

It's most likely that the goal you've set is a goal you've never reached before, meaning you've got to do stuff and learn stuff you've never done or learned before. Ask yourself what is the most important thing you need to learn in order to achieve your goal. Write this down. If you need to learn more than one thing, or acquire a certain skill set, make a list of those and start getting to it. Order that list by priority and take action. Look for it on the internet and take notes. STUDY IT. If that's not enough, go follow a specific course or ask for help! Just make sure you acquire those skills you need and that you learn what you need to learn in order to achieve your goal.


Step 4: Make a plan

Planning is crucial guys! Elon Musk did not come this far because he didn't plan. Bill Gates did not come this far because he didn't plan. Every successful individual plans! Every successful company plans! If you are not making a plan, you are planning to fail. It's as simple as that. 

Your planning has to go deep and should be on a daily basis. Just before you go to bed, plan tomorrow in advance, because when you do this, while you're sleeping - your subconscious mind is working very hard to get all these things processed and you wake up with new energy, new ideas and new things to work with. 


Step 5: Be disciplined 

Without being disciplined, you can forget about everything you want in life. Discipline is the key to success. Developing a habit of doing what you know you should be doing, when you should be doing it, whether you feel like it or not, is an essential here. Remember this sentence! Install it into your mind and repeat it over and over again if you have to, so it will be programmed into your subconscious mind. Failing to be disciplined is the number one reason people fail. It's the same with working out, with losing weight, in business... It's the same with everything in life. In order to get something done, you must be disciplined. If you don't know how to be disciplined, then make sure to note it down as a skill you need to learn. YES, discipline is a skill and everyone can learn it. If I can learn it then you can definitely learn it.  


Some final piece of advice

Don't think in limitations and be obsessed with whatever it is you want to achieve. When you think in limitations, you WILL be limited. People are capable of achieving amazing things, so can you and you should be obsessed with it! Being obsessed is the key to success and yes, if you want to be successful, you have to sacrifice a thing or two but if you don't sacrifice those things, then everything you love and care about will be the sacrifice.
